Company Profiles

Specialization in a Very Precise Business
Surgical Demolition and Diamond Concrete-Cutting

Fifteen years ago Groundhog made the decision to invest in high performance, high quality technologies that allow us to work in a new field called, 'Surgical Demolition and Concrete-Cutting.' This involves expertise that may not be well-known, but is no less important than removing an entire structure for new construction.

Demolition has been Groundhog Construction Services' niche since its inception. The company slowly shifted focus from the general demolition, excavation and underground utilities work that was the core of business towards niche specialties. These include 'surgical', 'selective', 'robotic demolition' and specialized concrete cutting. The majority of this work is in sensitive, confined and hazardous areas.

Owner and President Troy Otero, who founded the Albuquerque, New Mexico based business in 1996 stated, "Other than one New Mexico mine, we own the only two other Brokk demolition robots in the state."

These skills and equipment set Groundhog apart from the competition because it allows us to work in spaces that are unfit for workers or that are actively being used without disrupting normal business. For example, demolition in a hospital where medical devices couldn't be disturbed and in a machine shop - working on tight tolerances without jarring the machinery. It's a very precise business.

Additional Capabilities

In addition to the precise demolition work, Groundhog is well-known in the New Mexico building and demolition industry for other niches it fills: Environmental Assessment, Analytical and Remediation, Tank removal and installation, Water systems, Rockfall protection, and Historic site renovation.

Staff Expertise - Responsive Service

Expertise is the focus that has led to the company's growth throughout New Mexico, Arizona, Texas and Colorado. "We've invested in technologically superior equipment allowing us to complete projects in a timely manner. This kind of efficiency puts money back into our client's pockets because our time-at-job is often less than expected.

Groundhog consistently performs multiple projects at once, so Otero splits his staff of about 25 up into as many crews as necessary to complete projects on schedule. Key employees are; Project Manager Robert Montoya, Concrete Cutter and Coring Supervisor Ron Jaramillo and Sal Gonzalez, civil/utilities superintendent.

Built on Integrity

"A superior level of equipment, expertise and service is Groundhog's consistent goal. From day one, our focus has been on integrity: showing up when we say we will and doing the job to the customer's satisfaction. We'll also tell them if we can't do a job and refer them to someone else, if necessary. We're always looking for innovative methods that allow us faster and safer ways to take care of our customers because their time is valuable."
